What’s Your Secret Sauce?

Part 1- The five things that I feel make me different are the following:

  • Dedication/Motivation: For reasons far too personal for a blog post like this one to explain, I have a constant and burning spot that is always motivating me and reminding me to always push myself.
  • Passion: When I develop a passion for what I am doing in any given moment, there is not much that stands in the way of me giving it my all.
  • People Skills: There are certainly people who find themselves uncomfortable in social situations. I'm the opposite, I'm always comfortable even in "awkward" situations. I love meeting new people and building new relationships.
  • Work Ethic: I will admit that I am sometimes easily distracted. But when push comes to shove and there's hard work to do, I'm great at putting my head down and getting it done.
  • Conceptual Skills: When I am introduced to a new situation or made to learn something new, I believe I'm pretty good at wrapping my head around whatever the situation may be and always keeping a "third person perspective" to learn as fast as possible.
Part 2- Here are my five interviews:

For the first interview, I interviewed my Mom. She cited my communication skills which made me happy. For the second interview, my girlfriend said I was motivated towards my goals which I generally agree with. The third interview, my brother also talked about my goal setting and how I strive to achieve them. For my fourth interview, my best friend Juan said I had good people skills, which is something I generally agree with. Lastly, my cousin Alex also cited my maturity.

Part 3- Overall, I don't think my friends and family see me in a vastly different way than I do. I think (and hope) that means my interviewees are right about me! I also think it means I may have a good self-evaluation process. Going back to part one, I noticed that my work ethic and conceptual skills were not mentioned by any of my interviewees, which might mean there is a disconnect between what I feel about those skills and what others see.

Comments

  1. Dedication and motivation are very big factors, I agree. People skills is also, because communication is usually the bridging factor between people and businesses. I think this is where most people lack. In my opinion, business is a mix of creativity and communication. Conceptual skills I think might be the biggest facet for the following reason. A lot of ideas are not drawn out, but rather thought out. These are visualizations that we create in our imaginations, and in order to understand an idea, we really need to practice those skills.

  2. Hey Jean,
Going through all of your qualities I think all are important to have! For communication skills, that is incredibly important for anything in life but especially while being an entrepreneur. The same goes for motivation, it is something we as people are always seeking out and it will only help us to reach our desired goals. It is also very important to be mature, because it will only help you through life and keep you grounded. Best of luck!
