Solving The Problem

In one of my previous exercises, I identified an opportunity regarding the ridiculously lengthy lines and wait times in order to purchase a "Pub-Sub" (a sandwich line served by Publix in Florida). Specifically, I have had personal experiences with long wait times as well as having met countless others who also complain about the same issue. In fact, many who choose competitors such as Subway or Jersey Mike's specifically cite the long wait times at Publix for the reason they switched over.

My potential solution is to provide services to Publix to facilitate a transition from serving "pub-subs" in Publix locations to serving them in standalone locations. Customers would be able to approach a "Pub-Sub" location just as they would a Subway or Jersey Mike's, rather than having to enter through Publix. Because the location would be specialized to serving sandwiches, Publix can reduce wait times by changing the layout and functionality of their workspace; in actual Publix locations, they are sharing a cramped Deli with other workers.

Understandably, some might argue that Publix would miss out on sales from customers who entered Publix for a pub-sub, but left with additional groceries that caught their eye. While I do contend that it would be an issue, I also believe that because of reduced wait times and highly increased convenience, Publix would have a huge increase of customers for pub-subs that would far outweigh those losses. Combined with a great dine-in area and fantastic customer service, a standalone "Pub-Sub" store would be a win-win. By creating a specialized firm to assist Publix with services that can help them transition to individual locations, it is then a "win-win-win" scenario! (please pardon that reference to 'The Office')
